Such a fun experience for adults and kids!
This is a quiet place on an estuary with elevated walkways. You can safely walk over the mud and gators to see the lovely birds and bay views. There are shaded bird blinds where you can pause to see them up close.
Very beautiful place. While visiting south Padre Island my wife and I walked the boardwalk at the center. Great views of the wildlife. Only problem for is was the school field trips. Hard to keep a few dozen kids quite for very long. But still got some great shots of the natives.
We walked in and were greeted by a friendly face who informed us where to go—in the nicest way—and answered our questions patiently. It has an elevator to the top if needed, and it’s a beautiful view! We walked the half-mile walk and got to see a little of everything from flora to fauna. It was hot and we returned to the gift shop which had some great unique birding stuff, some half price. Spent an hour and a half, and it was worth it, even if I did miss the spring migration!

What a great Saturday! Cheers to the entire staff led by Cris Howard for a well-planned and executed Grand Reception of Alligator Sanctuary to SPI Birding & Nature Center. The RGV is blessed to have the educational value of our new reptile residents. Take the family and invite others to see Big Padre, Laguna and the rest of the crew.
