My experience in the emergency department during my daughter’s birth was traumatic and dangerous. I started feeling mild contractions around 5:00 a.m., which became increasingly intense over the next few hours. When I arrived at the hospital shortly after 9:00 a.m., I clearly informed staff that I had been in labor for over three hours and had already passed my mucus plug. I visited South Miami Hospital’s Emergency Room on January 11, 2026 for chest pain and was treated in their heart attack center. Nurse Elizabeth “Ely” Guerra made an incredibly stressful situation feel calm and manageable. Ely was professional, compassionate, and consistently kind.
