Great Ramen! Some of the best Ramen I've had. The service is a little slow but it makes for a relaxing meal. A very good vegetarian selection.

I want to recommend it because it's literally the ONLY macrobiotic restaurant in Manhattan (macrobiotic as opposed to vegan or vegetarian) - but having had great macrobiotic cuisine on that same block years ago - at The Cauldron and Samsara - and at The Paradox over on 7th St - the food at Souen doesn't come close. It's bland and pedestrian, lacks creativity and flair, the presentation is banal. It's a shame.

I'm a creature of habit so Souen is my default vegetarian restaurant (and has been for years) but I won't be spending my $ there anymore. The combination of rude (bordering on obnoxious service) and a decrease in food quality is enough for me. So many other great vege options w polite staff.
