We had a great experience doing the inner harbor tour with Melissa. The welcome in her own language was heartwarming. She explained the history and the values of her people with so much enthusiasm and intensity. It deeply touched us. It has been an experience that we would recommend to everyone. Thank you so much Melissa for sharing the stories of your people and yourself.
What an underrated gem in the otherwise tourist-y inner harbour! We took the Pəlat̓ᶱəs - Canoe Tour. I came with three friends from out of town. Jennifer, our guide, was friendly, funny, and warmly welcomed us. The paddling was more fun than I expected and it was a view of the harbour I've never seen. I learned some things about the Songhees I'd never heard living on the island my whole life! Highly recommend for people who live here and people who are looking for a fun day activity while in Victoria.
What an incredible experience. We joined a walking tour today with our guide, Melissa, and I truly can’t recommend it enough. The knowledge and stories shared about the Lək̓ʷəŋən people, their history, culture, and deep connection to this land were incredibly generous and impactful. We enjoyed a tour with Melissa this morning which was nothing short of extraordinary. We learned so much about the history of First Nations in this beautiful part of the world. Melissa was so knowledgeable and readily answered our many questions. Her personal story was particularly moving and we were inspired by her insights and the need to share their history through educational opportunities. We immediately headed to the museum to learn more!
Melissa was an amazing guide to the culture of the Songhees peoples. Her personal story and knowledge of her culture were deeply authentic and inspiring. This was a truly wonderful learning experience that helps me appreciate the cultural history of this beautiful region and the need for more widespread knowledge of our indigenous peoples.
