Love their sushi! – I love their happy hours. 1/2 off certain specialty rolls. My favorites are the Crazy Irishman & Red Devil. Even my non-sushi loving friends agree that those rolls are delicious. Also, the beef capascio is simply divine!
Soma on Washington: Worthless, expensive, uppity – Attended a party at Soma last night. Where do I begin?... I was a party of 15, the first six members of my party were seated and the waitress was more than persistent about taking the other chairs away. I explained to her that this was unacceptable. Soma is delicious everytime I go, which is often. They've got the best HH every day of the week! Their crazy irish man is my personal favorite! If you're looking for a great sushi place you need to check out Soma!
disgusting – I used to love this place and went her all the time. Recent went there and the waitress was rude and the sushi was absolutely vile. will never go back again
High quality Japanese fusion cooking – My wife & I went there for dinner on our anniversary. I highly recommend the 5, 7, or 9 course "chef's choice" meal. There was great progression of textures, sauces, and techniques as the courses progressed. It was some of the finest, cooked, Japanese food I have ever had. The service was outstanding as well. Nice place.... and that's about it – The sushi wasn't anything special at all, and I don't believe my salmon and scallops was that fresh. I could probably eat the same quality of food at Oishi, but besides all that I thought it was a pretty looking place. Seems like I'm paying for the scenery more than actual food.
Not my first choice for sushi – For a restaurant that aims to fuse French and Japanese cuisine, this place is a fusion fail! The food is subpar, especially for the prices. You walk in expecting a certain caliber from their food, but I was left more than disappointed. I would come here to drink, and that's about it. But then again, I could go anywhere to drink.
Sashimi – Went there today for lunch, not crowded, parked myself, sat at the bar and had the tuna, salmon, smoked salmon sashimi.....awesome...awesome taste and texture. That's it. Really good sashimi, how it should be...of course I could have eaten 3 more orders but I had to have some respect for the vendor who was treating me ($15 per order/5-6 pieces per order). Soma for your B-day – Soma provided a great birthday for me and two dozen friends or so last year, so I asked myself why get creative and go with a classic palm tree sushi server on westheimer, when I can go with a great experience again for this b-day. The staff accommodates a crew for the upper level penthouse, so you will feel like you own the place . . . Consider it your O-Ren Ishii hangout. I will be there for my birthday again this month, with the rest of my crazy two dozen, and I cannot wait.
