Went in on a Thursday around 10-11am. Did not have an appt scheduled beforehand. Was in and out in 15 mins for a name change. I was shocked how fast it was. Staff was quick and kind.

It's a US government retail office, you're going to wait appointment or not. Avoid a trip into this abyss if you can possibly do so. Good news is if you call the main # on a situation they will call you back in queue instead of waiting on hold. Bad news is if you must call the local office they're probably not going to answer the phone even after the menu tells how long the wait will be. You take your chances there.
I can’t believe I waited two hours on hold to schedule an appointment 🤯 why is something like that not accessible online. They treat people like garbage for needing help and they prolong the whole process to the point where you won’t see a dime until a year after applying ! They should be ashamed of themselves.
Read the instructions, filled out the forms, went there and was told that particular process is too long and they have to make an appointment a month out. Wasted my time driving 40 minutes there and waited in the lobby for an hour. Should have stated that on the instructions.
