Unexpected – It has been a while since I had eaten at Smithfield's and I have been craving their bar b-que. Every time up til now was alright, except the chicken would be a little too greasy. But like I said it has been a while since I've eaten here, maybe three years. Well my parents decided to get chicken, slaw, potato salad, bar-b-que, and hush puppies. Sounds good right? Well I began to dig in the food on my plate and was almost done w/ my bar-b-que when I saw something black on my plate. I looked at it twice and realize... read more
Smithfield - Solid B – The BBQ sandwiches are great. The fried chicken is great. The slaw is good, and the potato salad is especially good. While the sandwich is very good, I do not recommend eating the Q by itself. It is a little too dry for that. But it makes a great sandwich. The tea is outstanding. This really is a very good place. But I would not put it on my list of the Very Best. It's basically fast-food Q.
Even out of state you'll crave this! – I am from NC- born and raised. Smithfield Bar b que offers that great NC known vinegar based sauce for the Bar b que. I have traveled to many southern states for my job but nothing beats Smithfield!
MMM MMM GOOD – Being a native Floridian with parents from Eastern North Carolina, i crave this BBQ. I go to NC 3-4 times a year and although I have never eaten at the Smithfields in Raleigh I have eaten at other locations. This BBQ is by far the best! In fact, we always stop in Goldsboro before we get on 95 and make sure we get some frozen to bring home with us! Sweet Tea - your mom can't even make it this good!
the McDonald's of BBQ – Smithfields is OK if you've just got to have some BBQ right this very minute ... but to make the top 10? And to the be top representative of North Carolina BBQ? I think not. Smithfield's ranks high on speed ... low on flavor. For real NC BBQ, you need to visit Parker's in Wilson, NC ... or perhaps even Wilber's in Goldsboro, NC (don't forget to ask for some BBQ chicken gravy to go with your BBQ pork). Try one of those, and you'll see what real the real thing tastes like.
Not Alabama BBQ! – Even though it's is not the mustard based BBQ I'm used to, this BBQ was not even grilled! If you don't see any smoke coming out of a BBQ restaurant - DO NOT STOP THERE! The vinegar-based sauce was nasty.
The Best – I am from Morehead City, North Carolina and Smithfield's Bar-B-Q is THE BEST. My husband has been in the military for 15 years and we have traveled all over the world, literary, so being from the south I have to have my Bar-B-Q, coleslaw, sweet ice tea and hushpuppies. I have tasted some okay, just get me by until I get back home for a visit to Smithfield's, Bar-B-Q but nothing has ever come close.
Good stuff! – Our family had tthe pleasure of dining here and it was nothing short of wonderful! The barbeque was moist and very flavorful!
SO YUMMY!! – I am from South Carolina, but this is by far the best BBQ I have ever had! Not too greasy, just enough sauce!! Even the cole slaw is good...and I don't even like cole slaw! A must for BBQ connesoirs!
