A trendy after-work hangout, Smith & Mills is apt for a night of drinking with buddies or simply whiling away time at the bar area. The decor is minimalistic given the lack of space; the joint is a mere 430 sq ft. establishment. Interesting cocktails, music, late hours, and dine-at-the-bar are definite pros. On the flip-side, the staff can get a tad high-handed and the place gets mighty crowded on weekends.

warm hosts and atmosphere – smith and mills is the perfect place for a cozy low-pro drink downtown, especially now that hibernation/snuggle up with a scotch season is upon us. I'm puzzled by this other review, cause in my experience the family responsible for the smith & mills/beatrice inn establishments (especially the sister) has been nothing but gracious and welcoming. I almost wonder if this patron didn't encounter an imposter!
Sucky Crowd – My boyfriend had been to Smith and Mills and liked the dark, intimate atmosphere, so he suggested that we try it together. Upon first glance i liked the bar. However, the crowd was obnoxious. I understand that the bar is very small (which is one of the things i like about it), but that does not mean that you can use the person next to you as a bar stool. This girl was leaning against me for about a minute before i said something. She also had her hair in a hideous high ponytail and kept swinging it on me. When ... read more
Great Place – Great hole in wall and a welcome addition to the Tribeca bar scene, though the space is rather small in size. Drinks are solid, as is the food however, the bizarre black-haired waitress is a major let down and could use some polish in terms of etiquette and professionalism. Overall, thumbs-up for Smith and Mills.
Old-fashioned industry meets high-class cocktails at this tiny Tribeca hideaway. – In Short Marked only by a bare light bulb and its street address painted in red, this sophisticated nook is tucked inside a carriage house in the far reaches of Tribeca. Tufted banquettes hug the perimeter of the 450-square-foot space, contrasting with the more industrial elements of the decor--framed antique blueprints, metal chairs, utilitarian bar stools and weathered hardhats. Well-dressed guests stop in for quiet conversation, expertly po... read more
Quaint little hole in the wall – You almost miss it with the signless entry. look for the old carriage house door with a lone 71 glowing in it. Inside the place feels like its been there for years with well aged faux finish and 7 foot coffered plaster ceiling. Then of course theres the bathroom with the stained glass elevatorreassembled inside. The place is small and can fill up real quick. The cocktails are great, I recommend "The Martinez". Haven't tried the food yet. Nice addition to the cocktail scene that going on in tr... read more
