Not worth it I wanted to like this place so badly! It’s black owned and it’s in a retail space. However, this was not the case overall. I’ve been to Smiling Coast twice. Once for myself, and a second time for my pre teen sister. The first time I came, my experience wasn’t too awful but still not a great one which led me to book again because it might not be TOO bad as it’s hard enough getting black hair done in Madison, WI. Make sure you record the conversation you have with these people while booking and getting quoted a price, because they will do the EXACT OPPOSITE once you are finished in their chair. And then gaslight you along with the other employees of the shop and say they all heard you say something different (although I could’ve sworn I conversed and booked with one employee, not the entire staff) once you agree to pay for the service that you definitely did not ask for, they give a higher price. I've been here 4 times and I have liked my hair every other time (1 and 3). Your hair will look nice depending on who you have do it and what styles. However, after this 4th time I will not be returning. I asked for boho twists. They added the curly hair and the stylist applied something to my hair after that made all of the curls of the additional hair disappear and every since the hair hasn't curled and is hard and straight.
