It's an older building, but the doors, latches, and paving are all fairly new. My unit is behind a fence that is always open 7 days a week when I need access, but locked at night. Never had a security issue in the year-plus that I've used it. It's super-convenient, only a mile from my house. Good pricing.
It costs a little less than other storage places because the units are dumpy. There are ongoing attempts to pick our lock, and recently our unit was burglarized. We've gotten no response nor any help from Smedley. Smedley also has not responded to police requests for footage or assistance. We repeatedly asked them to replace the door latch because it had been damaged by would-be thieves, but they didn't do it. From our experience they are very difficult to contact.
