I wanted to like Slate, but honestly, 219 was SO much better. Free drinks for opening night were great. Food? Not so much. The glazed ribs were so dry. The Ahi felt forced, nothing special. The fried was basically cheese noodles in a pre-made pastry shell. Staff had not been trained, not only were some of them rude but they ignored my friend and I on multiple occasions. I understand that the first night of restaurant opening is not perfect in any way, but this was poorly executed. :(

Slate is fantastic! My husband and I went for their grand opening Thursday and brunch that Sunday. Everything we tasted at the opening was great, which was pretty much their entire menu. The staff was super friendly and on top of their game. We were about to sit down at a table and the waitress rushed over to change our table cloth and brought us waters. This place was genuinely awful we were looking forward to happy happy hour at 2:19 West to find out it was now slate. The food tasted something like it was in frozen boxes in the kitchen; nooked in the microwave and disguised with cheap garnish. This place I promise you is not worth your time and money. Imagine food the quality of Mr. Gattis sold in what is supposed to be a high end restaurant in downtown Austin. I normally do not review things on yelp, but I feel like the public should know about the quality of this restaurant. I was here for an engagement dinner last Friday with a big group. The server got us drinks pretty quickly when we came in and was overall very nice and helpful. The food menu looked very good and we ordered about 10 small plates and flat breads for the table to share. As an event venue, Slate's rooftop was excellent! Easy access from the downstairs to the rooftop, great views of West 6th Street and downtown Austin (southeast) with an upstairs bar. I was there participating in a fashion show so I didn't have the opportunity to actually have a full meal, but the appetizers were authentic Mediterranean, tasty and presented well. The employees who helped us with the show were very professional and accommodating.
