DON'T GO UNLESS A MEMBER – Our first visit here was during a time when the owner was away on a wine procurement trip to Canada. The lady that she had filling in for her was lovely, our pours were substantial and we shared a taste of our bottle with others at the bar. It was a very friendly visit. We returned a week later, bringing our own snacks (as they do not serve food) but felt as though we had intruded on a very exclusive private party. Initially the owner was cordial, but reserved. We purchased a bottle and an addition... read more
Great local hangout! – Funky local vibe. Great place to hang with friends. We've held many a book club here. The back area and tables are great for this... you can bring your own food and have a glass of wine. There are lots of regulars that hang out there and are very friendly and engaging. The owner always makes an effort to introduce new people to the regulars. The neighborhood is also great and if you are in need of dessert, you can run across the street to Sweets for chocolate or ice cream!
Go to Journey's Wine Bar Down the Street – The woman who is routinely here, I believe the owner, is very rude and unaccomodating. My husband and I have given this place several chances (everyone has a bad night, and it is very near our house), and we have had bad experiences at this establishment on a number of locations. All of this is a shame, because it appears that the shop does try to showcase local wineries and northwest wines. A wine tasting bar should invite conversation, and be comfortable. This wine bar is cold and... read more
Great local wines, excellent service – I stopped into this quaint wine shop in Multnomah and was more than pleasantly surprised. Not knowing a ton about wine, she asked me a few questions about what I was having for dinner for the gathering that I was hosting that weekend. She then found out what my price range was and asked me about the kind of body and flavor I wanted. She did an excellent job describing a taste - which doesn't seem like an easy task for me. She described why the wine she was recommending would work well wi... read more
Extremely Rude – My husband and I stopped in to this wine shop while out for a stroll. Boy, did we regret it. The woman working there (the owner, no less), was so rude and unwelcoming. She actually made disapproving faces like the "church lady" from Saturday Night Live when she looked at us. Now, we are just your average mid 30's couple looking for a nice bottle of wine, so I'm not sure what we did to provoke supercilious facial expressions and snidely delivered remarks out of the owner, but we won't be going back.
Editorial Review – Offering a selection of wines by the bottle or the glass, this wine shop offers monthly events and wireless Internet connections for guests.
Go for a Tasting – I love this place. It's quirky and I usually need help picking out wine to buy because I don't understand the organization system but everything that has been recommended is fantastic. Come in with an idea of what you want to spend and what you want to use the wine for (pork? cheese?) The tasting pours are huge and a "glass" is usually all the way up to the rim. You can bring in your own food if you want to have a gathering there and people usually share what they bring if they're sitting at the bar.
Great exposure to NW wines – Owner has a great palate. The wine here is a great value, i.e., taste/price. The glass pours are deep!!! Seating is not as good if you can't sit at the bar. Conversation is always quirky, but fun.
