Overrated and overpriced – Being Chinese, we know what good Chinese food should taste like. My fiance and I frequent low key, no frills Chinatown restaurants for good Chinese food at value prices. I regrettably persuaded him to check out Shun Lee West because of it's cool decor and rave reviews. We were beyond disappointed... Whether it was the shoddy service, where it was obvious that better service was being provided to the non-Asian patrons, or the overpriced, COLD dim sum at $6.50 a dish (3 times Chinatown prices), or th... read more

DIRTY dishes; HORRIBLE service; Mediocre food. – Don't waste your time or money. It started with the dirty glasses, forks and plates. (Chunks of sliced ginger in my water glass? How did that happen?) Next came the rude waiters (not just one!) who instead of fixing the problems that we kindly pointed out, gave us a lecture, brought the wrong appetizer, brought hot towels before we were all finished with our meal, and tried to take our dishes away before we finished our meal. By this point, our mediocre meal was ruined and tem... read more

bad experience – This place is so famous that I couldn't help checking it out while I was in New York. Customer service is awful. I waited a long time for the food and it wasn't even hot when I finally got it. What a waste of space. They should spend money on higher quality of food and staff instead of the decor. I wish I had saved the money of the meal for some souvenir.

Mediocre dim sum... – The dimsum is way overpriced for the quality and taste. I was not impressed with any of the items. The decor is tacky. Best part was the service. The waiters were very attentive and polite. One thing for sure, I will go back just because it is cleaner than chinatown.

Hit_Or_Miss – I have been to Shun Lee Cafe 8 times over three years. MOST of the time the dim sum is good: the fried items are usually crisp and the steamed things are tender. Try to get them to give you the freshly made items when they come out of the kitchen, rather than the baskets from the top of the stack. Naturally they put the fresher food on the bottom to keep things moving but I ended up with dried out jumbo shrimp last night because it was slow and food sat around a bit. Also, if you do get a bum dumpling, tell the... read more

Great dim sum – If you're going to Lincoln center or to a concert at central park, this is the place for an interesting, not that expensive meal. They couldn't do enough for you. The service was efficient and smiling. As an avid dim sum diner, I thought this place was way above average. Interesting steamed combinations of healthy dumplings, veggies with peanuts, shrimp scallops and scallions, lots , very tasty and not too salty or greasy. They also came around with a tray of various fried appetizers to choose from. We made r... read more

Really good dim sum. – My first time actually going to a semi dim sum place and what a really good experience. Although is a bit crowded reservations should be made on sundays, the place was well worthy. Although the dim sum was a bit pricey the main courses were not.

Only if your not hungry – Stopped in for dinner and was seated prompty. Wait staff was friendly and helpful which complimented the black/white decor. However this is all that was good about this restaurant. The appetizers were a joke, especially the Dim Sum at $6.50 a pop. Shrimp fried rice alone, with nothing else was 12.95 and my BBQ pork meal came with a baby cup of white rice. I would have been better off driving to one of the local chinese food restaurants in Brooklyn because including toll it would have been cheaper an... read more
