"We make our own," says it all for this Chico institution. Begun in 1938 when Leonard C. Shubert left Montana, at age 54, to find a location in California for an ice cream shop. His nephew, Charles Pulliam, Sr., joined him three years later and then bought the business from Shubert's widow in 1951. No Equal Shuberts is, by far, the best icecream in Chico. Not only is it the last local family run parlor, they make everything on the premises. They have an expanding sugarfree selection that spills over to the handmade candy. I have found nothing more enjoyable than a two scoop sundae, at the table outside, any evening of the week.
