I wouldn't bring my animal to this ED. Had a very sick elderly patient in the waiting room laying on the floor in very clear distress and it took another patient saying something to get them to even notice the patient. After 3 1/2 hours of waiting (between the waiting room and then the smallest corner with a curtain), never being acknowledged by any nurse or doctor, we chose to leave and go to an actual hospital where patient care truly is their number one priority...UVA. Aug 2025: Just stayed 3 weeks for a broken hip. Medical and Transitional Care. From the OR staff, surgeon, medical caregivers, PT and OT on to the many other SMH employees, I was treated with respect and well trained staff. I have been hesitant to write a review because of a past experience with my husband being admitted and treated horribly. The nurses and doctor were judgemental and dismissive. HOWEVER I would like to note that I was just recently admitted here myself and was taken care of very promptly. Front desk and intake nurse were very kind and listened like they really cared.
