My boyfriend and i stayed here recently in early Oct.2013 the place looked great and manager seemed very nice, But do not be fooled by the good looks. We stayed near the back of motel which was what changed our mind about ever returning there! A real nightmare...There was an older lady in 50s that was always yelling at her two giant rottweilers to stop this or do that.. this lasted virtually the whole week we were there day and night!. My family and i stayed at this motel quite a few times in the last 7 years and the new owners/management (since i believe 2009)are wonderful,friendly and courteous people.The rooms were just remodeled in the last 2 years and are really nice.Definately a big difference from when we stayed a couple years before that!I would recommend this place to my family and friends coming to the portage area.The area is nice! Don t let the low rates and somewhat good outside looks fool you. I stayed for 1 night here, and it was nothing but like living in a run down motel with Outdated beds that had jail like mattress, broken lights, dirty carpet, bedding etc. In other words if you wanna pay a over priced rate to stay in a 1 star motel that s mostly booked with low income tenants noisy at night. then be my guest. nice people,pet friendly and very clean rooms with great rates.
We stay at the Shady Lawn Motel when we are traveling in the Portage/ Wis. Dells area. Since last year they have done alot of upgrading to the rooms and exterior.They have lowered their rates. Very affordable for long term stays. Most rooms have a fridge and microwave. They have a court yard for picnicing and lounging. A nice mom and pop motel.
I stayed at the Shadylawn motel for 3 months during the summer of 1999. The place was clean, the service was great, the husband and wife that run the place were friendly and very courteous. The motel is at a great location right near everything and is very safe. The best part was that it did not cost a whole lot. I strongly recommend this place.
