As the son of a military veteran with PTSD, I am deeply disappointed by the way this counseling practice treated my father. My father was denied access to care over an unpaid bill that, in our view, should have been submitted to insurance. I had a very troubling experience with the office manager, Mary, at Self Care Counseling regarding their billing practices. Mary failed to bill my primary insurance and then automatically charged my card without going through my insurance first — which is improper billing practice. I have since contacted both of my insurance companies, and both have confirmed that the way she handled my billing was wrong.
