We had to take our rabbit to UW for an emergency when our regular vet was unable to take see him. When presenting our options after it was confirmed our rabbit had a liver lobe torsion, the vet used the term "gold level standard of care" regarding a surgery which would be around $5,000 dollars. This made us feel incredibly guilty and was very poor word choice. We ultimately decided to put our rabbit down given the risk of surgery and our rabbit's age. UW vet school is the best, and i say this as someone that experienced a tragedy there. Our sweet rescue girl had taken a fall and been limping and lethargic for a month. We took her to our family’s vet who took xrays, did an exam, told us it looked like a torn ACL, and referred us to a very expensive specialist. I decided to make the 2 hour drive to the UW vet school instead. They got my girl in early and going by the xrays our family vet sent told us it was probably cancer and poor xray technique.
