One of San Francisco's real gems; this award winning Jazz club & restaurant was the Readers' Poll choice for "Best Restaurant for Turning on the Romance". The ambiance is mellow, the lighting is soft with candlelight, the music a delight & the menu is an expression of French, Caribbean and West African dishes as appealing to the palette as they are to the sight. The Rum Bar is also very unique!

Don't waste your money Boring, boring, boring! Visited Saturday 5/31/08. Band started late and without the lead guitar player who showed up just in time to play two songs before they took a break. And to add insult to injury they weren't very good. Our table felt dirty - yuck! And the place was so dimly lit the people next to us were using a pocket flashlight to see their dinner! Don't waste your money on this place.

Look elsewhere – This place was not what I expected at all. The service was atrocious - when I walked in with my girlfriend, we had to walk to the back to find someone to seat us - the waitress wasn't even aware we'd made a reservation. The food was bland, and the atmosphere was anything but romantic. The jazz was contemporary/fusion, so if you're looking for classical jazz, I would not recommend this place. On top of that, the speakers were blaring. The drum levels were overpowering, and it was impossible for us to have a c... read more
great live jazz in the mission – Having lived in San Francisco all my life I was surprised to discover this wonderful club on Mission St. The place is really romantic, with dim lighting, candles and comfortable booths. The jazz trio had great energy and they were later joined by an excellent guitarist. Rachel the bartender makes great mango vodka cocktails. Jimmy is a lot of fun at the door. Recommended
Live music and Senegalese cuisine in a dimly lit Mission space. – In Short Vintage album covers line the walls of this hybrid destination; a wood-carved bar in the corner offers libations. As musicians perform Latin and Brazilian jazz nightly, patrons can dance or dine from a menu that features everything from fish-stuffed pastries to lamb stew couscous. Desserts include an apple tart and banana flambé.
User review by cmilton – We had a great time at Savanna. The service was wonderful.
Not in touch with the Bay Area Jazz scene – Although this place has a lot of potential it is lacking in the support of bay area jazz musicians. Every time I've been there it is the same trio playing who seem to be restrained from playing innovative jazz. the band plays the same standards that have been played for the last 60 years. We're in the year 2005 and I'm tired of going to so called jazz clubs the claim to be supporting jazz but all you get is old standards which is good for a historical purpose but we have plenty of ... read more
Great Jazz in the Mission? – Who would have thought that the Mission would have a jazz club and a great one at that?!? The ambiance is romantic and relaxed. The service is great and the music is the old school jazz that you hear on great records (not that horrible elevator music jazz that is so frequent these days). Oh, and this place serves Sengalese style food until midnight! Who could ask for more?
a great and much needed new jazz club – Savanna Jazz club has a great feel. Its a warm, relaxed and friendly place with top notch service and really good jazz. The crowd is one of the most diverse I've seen anywhere in San Francisco; a mix of young hipster types, older jazz afficianados, students, working people, etc. The service is relaxed, but professional. Although the drinks are good and reasonably priced, the pretty tasty Senegalese food is a tad expensive. All in all this was one of the best nights out I've had in San ... read more
