After a few less-than-stellar encounters, I was reprimanded like a child by this psychiatrist for missing an appointment for the first time in nearly two years due to entering it in my calendar wrong. She refused to take me off of medication that left me feeling sluggish and abruptly lowered another that is known to cause seizures with sudden dropping of dosage or stopping use. I’ve been a patient of Dr. Kurien for 32 years and she has gotten me through many difficult situations as well as dealing with my depression and anxiety all with compassion and caring. She is very on top of patient care and extremely knowledgeable about medication and how it relates to different disorders and conditions. She takes notes, is really interested on how my life is going and is kind and caring. She is not the kind of doctor who writes a prescription and sends you away for 3 months. Top quality care for anxiety, bipolar, and other problems that require a lot of fiddling with medication to get the best effect. Dr Kurien is no-nonsense and focused on solutions to behavioral problems.
After my first visit I was impressed. The office is nice and clean, looks like a place one can relax in while waiting for their appointment, soft piano music helped. The couches in her office where very comfortable, and everything was clean and organized. I noticed she doesn’t have a computer in her office but she has many books and took more notes than any doctor I can remember seeing. She was friendly, inquisitive and seemed to genuinely care. I find she was very open to treatment ideas.
I've been seeing Dr Kurien for over nine years and have found her to be extremely intelligent and spot on in her assessments. I trust her judgement implicitly.
I feel like she wants you to come often because she wants the money. It is always her way or the highway.
