I was recently at Salt 88 as a co-host for a baby shower. The order for the party was mixed up. We felt that this was on the part of the restaurant. However, the restaurant owner (John) made it clear he didn't think it was his fault. Regardless, there was confusion. I absolutely understand mistakes are made. It used to be our absolute favorite, but it's gone downhill. We went tonight for the first time in quite a while. The lighting used to be dimmed and intimate feeling. It is now harsh, bright and fluorescent, and it killed the ambiance. The music seemed louder than it had been in the last. The fresh mozzarella was very good as always. Our server was nice, but overly animated. She offered a refill on my drink, and then didn't bring it for ten minutes. The food was excellent, as usual. But if you get stuck in the back area near the bathrooms and there is a table of 6 basically screaming, it effs up your dining experience. If you are sitting 3 feet away from your date, you would like to hear what they are saying.
Had our anniversary dinner there last night and 100% loved it! I had the rack of lamb and my wife the miso salmon! Great experience!
