About this business

Editorial from"Dang" Vattanatham's sleek Thai restaurant is named for a traditional Thai gazebo-like structure. The industrial space sports concrete walls, exposed ducts and a high ceiling, but is softened by traditional Thai art. Start with an order of…

This surprising Pasadena "twin" sings a different Thai tune. – The Scene Sister to neighboring Saladang, this second (song) restaurant aspires to be even more authentic. Behind monumental courtyard walls, two palms tower over a sleek indoor/outdoor setting where the waitstaff glides among inquisitive patrons. The Food Lively flavors start with appetizers like fish cakes and frittery corn cakes, both lightened with cucumber salad. Dishes pack sharp Thai contrasts--savory fish balls smoothed by milky curry, silky rock-cod with... read more

keep going back for more – yummy thai food that doesn't have the horrible aftermath the next morning. =p i can always enjoy getting my fill with delicious food without breaking my wallet at this restaurant. their fried bananas drizzled with rum and honey are just scrumptious! the restaurant is now a little more crowded and noisier than it used to be but the food hasn't changed one bit and is delicious as always.

A beautiful delicious song – If you're used to the cheap Thai food that more often than not looks and tastes like spicy Chinese food, Saladang Song will be a revelation to you. The food is fresh, tasty, and beautifully presented. The overall quality is definitely worth the little extra cost over other local Thai restaurants. The ambience, especially on the walled-in patio on a warm evening, is relaxing and romantic. Give it a try. You'll be addicted.

VERY authentic – This is the best Thai food I have had BY FAR since leaving Bangkok, where I lived for two years, and I have searched extensively. When I am eating there, I close my eyes and feel like I am back in Thailand. Not only is the food outstanding, but the restaurant also has dishes from the provinces of Thailand which are RARE in most Thai restaurants in the U.S. I especially recommend the sticky rice with grilled meat (a specialty of the Isaan province), the papaya salad (frequently prepared poorly in the U.S.), a... read more

Thai food junkies paradise! – It's great Thai - no question about that. I've eaten at most of the Thai places around, and it's a notch above the rest. The only problem is that it's ALWAYS crowded and always a wait. The restaurant makes you feel like you are eating in a warehouse - but, if you don't mind that, you'll get great food and good service. I, for one, usually get take out.

Saladang – I have lived in this area all my life and I would never reccomend a restaurant unless I knew it was always good. The restaurant was very large like an airplane hangar. Noisy, the food was average at best. The main dish we ordered "the waitress reccomended it" was a mess of everything and not hot. I could not believe my eyes when I saw the bill, over $70.00. I definitely would not go there again.

Excelent Food & Service! – Been lunching and dining here for over 10 plus years. We also brought and recommended this restaurant to at least a dozen people which all came back again and again! Discovered the place when it was newly opened with a girl that knew the waitress here. After that, everything was history! It's still the only place that's extremely prompt and professional, and food is beyond delicious! Their success is simple and basic fact is: good food and professional service!

10? – Drove from The Fairfax area for the best Thai restaurant on the planet. They received a 10 from citysearch, this place is going to be incredible. STOP! It wasn't. Not a terrible experience but the entire evening was average. Nothing bad to say, nothing good to say. Pasadena is starbing for restaurants that speak to the true foodies out there. Thai food in Pasadena is just plain bad, I can see why Saladang does so well. A 10, come on! Can Citysearch be bought?

Traditional Thai cuisine in a post-industrial Pasadena setting. – The Scene Postmodern, techno concrete, exposed pipes and enigmatic art set the stage at this always-crowded eatery. Bustling groups of locals have made this place a hot Thai spot for years now, so if you want a table, prepare to wait in line. The Food Restaurateur Dang Vattanatham has her finger on the pulse of Pasadena with dishes as refined and beautifully presented as any Norton Simon member could want. There are lapses--like greasy Saladang spicy noodles o... read more
