Authentic Indian food from many different regions, first-rate service and a delightful ambiance make Salaam Bombay a popular spot. The affordable prices are also a draw. There is a handsome dining room looking onto a glassed-in kitchen. Tandooris, Kashmirian lamb cooked in a pot, and spicy fish dishes from Goan are some of the delicious specialties. Appetizers include breads, salads and soups, lentil cakes, shrimp in garlic sauce and chicken tikka.

amazing buffet – I'm from California and love Indian Food, Salaam Bombay was recommended by my friends in L.A. who've dined here before. I must say we were truly impressed with the quality and flavors of the food. Will be back
best kept secret – best chicken tikka masala in nyc...another winner is the lamb chops...staff is friendly and polite...highly recommend
disgusting!!!! – Can't believe anyone would go back to this depressing hole, especially when the staff adds 20% for gratuity even for a party of 2!!!! Then they try and trick you into adding an additional tip by not producing the whole check, only the reciept with the total after they run your card. this place closed and re-opened under new ownership and is the worst place I've ever eaten. Always empty and bad food. Really bad food. Try Balluchis down the street, pricey but consistently good.
Simply the Best! – We've been going to Salaam Bombay for fourteen years now. It's not only our favorite Indian Restaurant its on of our favorite restaurants period. Reading the previous reviews about raw food and people getting sick suprise me because our experience over the years have been nothing but true enjoyment. In todays times the fact that a restaurant is been around for over fourteen years must say something about the place; that their doing something right. Salaam Bombay offers great food, warm service and a great ... read more
Really the worst!!!! – beware of raw meat! a former delivery guy, now working at another great indian place in the neighborhood, told me all the meat they use is frozen (sometimes for months) before its cooked. that's why everyone's complaining about raw chicken and rubber lamb. the food here used to be good, now its just awful. I mean really, really awful. and the waiters really try and push you to order lots of extras. beware! the check includes 15% gratuity - but if you don't catch it before you give them a credit card, t... read more
Dangerous!! We were sick for a week!!! – We eat Indian here in NY a lot - I've never had a meal that I didn't enjoy, if not love - until now! Four of us ordered different dishes, and 2 were inedible. We sent them back, but the next dishes were just as bad. I think it was the frozen meat they use, which translates to a rubbery, chewy, strange consistancy. Same for the lamb and beef dishes we tried. Absolutely disgusting. Bad food can be tolerated, but having to spend the next few days with wrenching guts is not! My brother, m... read more
Salaam Bombay – A month or so ago I stopped in to get lunch take out for my 11 year old son. When I got home and gave to him we found the chicken red raw. Yesterday I had lunch ther and then spent the rest of the day and evening in the bathroom. It really is a shame as we have been regular customers there for more than 10 years but during the last couple of them the standards have dropped markedly. No more visits for. my family.
Delicious and flavorful Indian – Must try place in Downtown if you are looking for good Indian food. I have been here several times for dinner and once for the buffet lunch. The food never failed to impress me. I really like the Chicken Chettinad and Chicken Xaccuti. The former is very spicy but I love it! Glad to hear from other people that this is indeed authentic Indian.
Worst Indian Food and Service in NYC – The worst service I have received in a restaurant in a long time. The food was awful. I would not recommend this place at all.
