I was here in 2018-19. The psychology staff is great. They don't require the residents to go to Mass so most the residents (which is mostly priests) don't go to Mass. I spent 5 months here and grew a lot as a person. I made some good friends. It's sad that even though I got a great evaluation, my bishop still wouldn't put me back into active ministry.

I spent two weeks there for a health evaluation. I am a diocesan priest with a background in psychology. The first thing to note is that this is a Catholic, Mental Hospital. They will admit to this only when pressured. Pros: - Great nursing teams. - Really good kitchen staff and food. - Excellent recreational facilities. - Beautiful chapel. - Beautiful campus. Cons: - Psych Department... * Disrespectful and manipulative. * Not a Catholic approach to psychology. - Required to sign a medical release form. * Everything is share... read more

You might stay for 6,12+ months. I saw some patients who were stuck in SJVC for years. Once here doctors will diagnosis you with something (anything actually) and use it as a pretext to keep you as a patient. Bear in mind SJVC profits quite handsomely from the diocese/orders who pay SJVC to keep the patients they send them. Indeed... read more
