I've only been here for Happy Hour, but their food is really good, particularly the fries and prices are reasonable. The atmosphere is mostly downtown professionals but later in the evening, it's more of a date place. Service is always incredibly friendly.
Worst Happy Hour in Portland! – The last review was over a year ago and it has gotten worse! We had the most unhelpful waiter and a very mediocre, greasy and in one case, cold (should have been hot) happy hour. Don't order the happy hour burger... you get a mini slider and fries for $5. Yes...one minislider! The only half way decent item was the crab dip and that was nothing to brag about. Sad to see what has happened to this restaurant!
Worst restaurant ever – I've been to many restaurants in DC and I would vote that one the worst in town. I've been there on two occasions: - business lunch: ABSOLUTELY impossible to have a proper conversation. This place is one of the loudest of DC (it means something) - a dinner planned with a friend. After being told the table would be ready in 20 minutes, we went to the bar, waited for 15 minutes, asked again how long we would have to wait... guess what: 20 minutes. - in general, the food is low quality and outragously ex... read more
worst food ever – This place has totally gone downhill. I miss the old red star. Even the new management and workers suck.
Wine Seller Cellar – Neon aquamarine fluorescence bathes an older set sipping on fluted champagne and cocktails at this below-ground restaurant and bar. Rather empty on a Friday night, the basement space was almost too classy for its own good. Faux-reptile skin couches and black-trimmed bar stools sit below rows of bottled wine racked along the walls. The bartender, all in black too, was attentive, warm, and congenial, providing the wine bar some needed levity. The cheese also looked great, though I’d just had dinner. The ba... read more
Spacious, but yet cozy wine bar in Dupont – In my search for great wine bars, Urbana always came up, yet I hadn't gone until last night. It's underneath the Hotel Palomar in Dupont. Literally underground but there's a big sign out front so it's easy to find. I went for happy hour with $5 wine and appetizers and $8 pizzas. The bar/lounge area was really nice with the cozy couches. It's pretty spacious once you're inside so you barely feel like you're underground! The wine list looked great, however, they only offer house wine... read more
Very disappointing, overpriced – We ate at this place a couple of times a few years ago, and were impressed. Not so this time. $20 to $35 for an entree in Portland should mean that you GET GOOD FOOD. Nothing was very impressive. We got roast chicken that was undercooked, and blackened catfish (for $26!) that was not on par with catfish I've eaten that was $6. My catfish came with "Brabant potatoes", which are apparently meant to be undercooked, dessicated, and generally unappealing. Maybe this place stays in business because... read more
Wine and cheese, please! – This place is underneath the Palomar hotel and right next to Pizza Paradiso on P Street. It doesn't get busy until later in the night so reservations aren't needed if you head over early, especially on a week night. I went here after work with a friend and we had some wine and ordered a cheese board. My only critique was that our waitress had a lot of trouble identifying wines and cheeses and being able to recommend anything from the menu. Despite that, the wine was still great and the cheese board... read more
Citysearch Editorial Review – Clean lines, dark wood accents and impeccable service round out the scene at Sable Kitchen and Bar, a gastro-lounge inside River North’s Hotel Palomar. A well-edited selection of cocktails made with fresh squeezed juices and homemade syrups by mixologist Mike Ryan make Sable a coveted after-work hotspot. But the small plates, including a classy version of beef jerky and doughy soft pretzels with smoked cheddar cheese dip, are great options for a satisfying bite. The selection of flatbreads are d... read more
