Ruby s Diner was established in 1980, after junior-high buddies Doug Cavanaugh and Ralph Kosmides renovated a dilapidated building on the end of Balboa Pier in Newport Beach, Calif. The 1940s-style restaurant, which was located in a former bait shop, became an immediate hit, taking in $600,000 in the first year. In the second year, sales exceeded $1 million. Pretty rude, no water offered and we had to beg for dirty paper menus.
Sat, 3-8-14 8:10pm Just ordered two Ruby Burgers with cheese to go. Got home to eat them and no cheese, dry burger, one thin piece of tasteless tomato. Overall dry and tasteless... Had Sweet potato fries (good), and shake (good) all for $24! 2 burgers, one order of fries, one small looking shake for $24!! Wow. No wonder there wasn't a line to get in, like there used to be. Sad.
