Virginia Tea Society visits Rowena's I am the Director of The Virginia Tea Society. We held our September meeting along with a fabulous tea at Rowena's and it was beyond belief. I had spoken with Andrea, the pastry chef several times arranging the tea and she made sure Rowena's lived up to it's name. There was comforting music playing in the background, beautifully set tables with a vase of fresh flowers on each and a wonderful atmosphere. It was the best tea, in this area, that I have had the opportunity of attending. We were offered bottomless pots of loose teas: Earl Grey, Liz's Blend, Apricot and Raspberry along with three decaf's: English Breakfast, Green and Orange Spice along with milk or lemon slices and sugar cubes in a swan shaped container with tongs. We were also offered goblets of water with lemon and glasses of sparkling cider. There were five types of sandwiches - two halves of each, cherry tomatos, two scones served with lemon curd, Devonshire clotted cream and assorted jams, three slices of Rowena's's famous cakes, three slices of various melons, strawberries, kiwi's, grapes, and two hersey kisses. All of this was served on three tier trays...not one for each table but one three tier tray for each guest. It was just everything you expect at a Royal Tea and beyond. They even provided containers for take home delights. It was simply Marvelous!!! I recommend this Tea Room highly to everyone who reads this review. Thank you Rowena, Andrea and staff for a remarkable event! We will certainly be back soon! Aurora Livingston, Director, Virginia Tea Society, www.virginiateasociety.com

Enjoy elegant afternoon tea in this cozy hideaway perfect for bridal showers, bridge groups and birthday parties. – The Scene Walking by the six-foot white rabbit, customers expect to enter a wonderland. No disappointments there: The front area is a gift shop with enough tea sets, jams, jellies, dessert toppings, cake mixes and numerous other cooking sauces sure to please Lewis Carroll's Alice. In the back, a sizable tea room is decorated with circular glass tables and floral-print chairs in bright blues, yellows and pinks that insist it's Easter year-round. The Food Most go for fresh-baked scones, assorted tea sandwiches or the almond pound cake that made owner Rowena Fullinwinder famous. All dishes change with the season: Winter, the menu might feature chicken salad seasoned with carrot jam; spring could bring a melon platter with open-faced cumber and dill on pumpernickel. A variety of teas are available to accompany the irresistible sweets. The rich turtle cake has won many a fan with its gooey caramel sauce, lush chocolate frosting and crown of chopped pecans.
