Hubby went to get us two gelatis and when he brought them home we realized they had no icecream on the bottom. No big deal. Since they were closing in about five minutes we called to let them know we weren’t going to make it back in time to have them remade and the lady said that’s how they’re supposed to be made? She also said a lot of people don’t like icecream on the bottom so you have to request that…? Maybe it’s a new policy it was our first visit of the season but fyi if you get a gelati request custard on the bottom!

I grew up eating water ice aka Italian ice. It's a Philly thing. It is one of the few regional foods that travels well. Rita's not only travels well but the addition of custard/soft serve ice cream has evolved what was being sold back in the day. I only wish that one or two stores remained open year round because when it's gone it's gone.
