Rhoto Ruckus (fast & flowy) will get you comfortable with sustained speed and berms. Deadwood will introduce steeper grades, tigher small-radius berms, drops, and jumps. Booked a coaching session with Walker for my 13-yr old and it was so worth it. With his help he was able to comfortably do a few intermediate trails, and learn good techniques. Certainly coming back.
I’m from Michigan so I don’t get to Kanuga as often as I’d like to but I still make sure to get there 3-4 times each year. I LOVE Kanuga!! The trails are epic and the employees are really great people. Alex keeps the place humming; Walker and Jack are great teachers (lessons with either one is money well spent!); and Joey (chief “butter boy”) is the best investment Kanuga has made of late. I’ve had an awesome experience working with Alex in the shop and doing coaching sessions with Walker Shaw. Alex is hands-down one of the best mechanics I’ve worked with. He takes the time to explain what he’s doing, makes thoughtful recommendations instead of just upselling parts, and everything comes back dialed. Brakes feel consistent, suspension is set up right, and the bike just rides better. You can tell he actually rides and understands what matters on trail, not just in the stand. This is an amazing place, and for most, best with an EBike, which they rent right there! All flavors of trail from Green to Double Black, and a nice bike shop for gear and some parts. Peddle up, fly down. About 500 feet of elevation over 1 mile per climb-up. Great price for a day at a park with this much variety..love it!
