Don't Bother – Not recommended. Staff swept the floor continually in the dining area during lunch; stirring up God knows what. No hand washing between handling money & serving food. Many items on the 'special board' were unavailable. Had to retrieve our own menus because the waitress was busy talking to her boyfriend about the evening's plans. Also some of the food was lukewarm.
horrible service – The service is absolutely horrible. I've had so many bad experiences that I refuse to go back. The last time I was there, it took a while for our waitress to take our order, which was mainly chocolate chip pancakes. After waiting 20 mins for our food, she came back to finally tell us that they were out of chocolate chips!! No food had even started to be cooked at that point. Fantastic Catering at Rick's – My husband's company uses Rick's for catering and is very pleased with the food and service. Recently, we hosted a corporate event at our home, and used Rick's for catering. I enjoy cooking and entertaining and don't use a caterer normally for such events - but after the great experience I had with Rick's on this event - I will be calling on them again and again! You have be insane to eat here. – w w w . newsobserver . com/news/story/1021729.html 60 people fell ill due to Rick's catering. This restaurant is a pit, has been for years. Look at all the other reviews. Rick's is well known in the Durham community to have bad food, high prices, extremely bad service and is UNCLEAN. Please save yourself the money and disappointment and try anywhere else. If not, one or two visits will tell you the real story.
Durham's worst dining experience – Do not waste your money here. I've been to Rick's about 5 times, and somehow the bad memories fade and I return hoping things will get better, but it never does. The food is consistently bad and the service borders on rude. The portion sizes are tiny and the ingredients are cheap and skimpy. Even the vegetable soup is like watered-down ketchup! How much longer... – ...Can Rick's stay open? The food is terrible, the service is worse. It seems everytime they have a good waitress they don't stay very long. I had a piece of meatloaf that looked and tasted like a cardboard box, the potatoes were cold and flavorless.
Consistently SubStandard – After trying the "new" Rick's Diner twice, I'm convinced NOT to go to University Drive. The service was absolutely abominable both times, and the entire staff was unconcerned about customers. It appears that they learned from the original location.
Grand opening, sorry I went... – I went to the grand opening of Rick's 6/23/03 and received poor service from the waitress and Rick. We waited for an hour for our food, which was room temp by the time we received it. We were told we only waited 20 min. We asked to see Rick and he too told us we only waited 20 min. We ordered at 6:15 and our food came at 7:20. You can do the math. Then Rick congratulated us on being his first complaint. I found that to be extremely rude. What's happening? – I frequent Rick's and have become appalled at the lack of service that I have been receiving as of late. I have to repeatedly ask for refills of tea, and the wait time for your food has become ridiculous. I don't know what has happened, but Rick's has taken a wrong turn. After numerous visits with the same problems, I am going to take a break from eating here. Go to Rick's at your own risk, and be prepared to wait for everything but being seated.
