After consulting with top spine specialists at Mayo Clinic, Northwestern, and Mount Sinai, I was repeatedly told that spinal fusion—of one or even two vertebrae—was my only option. I was hesitant to proceed, concerned about the long-term impact of fusion and the lengthy recovery. Then I met Dr. Richard Fessler at Rush, and everything changed. He took the time to thoroughly review my case and offered a minimally invasive alternative without the need for any fusion. His confidence, expertise, and clear communication immediatel... read more

I feel a moral obligation to leave a review and say I’m a few years out a spinal fusion Dr. Fessler performed on me— which I was assured would relieve me of the pain I was having. Though until this day I have to carry ice packs everywhere I go and take an assortment of medications just so I can walk. A surgeon who did not operate me is working harder to treat my post op complications and issues than Fessler is. I recommend not seeking medical treatment from him.

The laminectomy was performed arthroscopically and on an outpatient basis—something I initially found encour... read more

If negative stars were available to rate this excuse for a "doctor" it would be what I would choose. He is rude and arrogant and needs to retire. He listened to nothing, canceled my appointment with no notice, failed to have any information about why I even made the mistake of making an appointment with him and could care less. He spent less than 10 minutes with me, regurgitated his "professional" opinion about my condition yet could not respond to any form of intelligent questions that I asked. Do the hospital and all that ... read more
