About this business

Resto, French slang for casual restaurant, opened its doors in April 2007. The concept of a laid back neighborhood gathering place with approachable Belgian food in the style of New York, was created by the owner, Christian Pappanicholas. Resto has become a destination in Gramercy Park/Murray Hill for a delicious dinner, weekend brunch or a late night bite. The knowledgeable and friendly staff is well versed in the extensive Belgian beer list and the thoughtful wine list which focuses on a selection of French, Italian and Sp... read more

Terrible – I went to Resto with my boyfriend some time in August after being told that it was "the best new burger in town" and "great Belgian cuisine." Halfway through the appetizers, we decided that our friend who recommended it might have the worst taste in cuisine, hates us, or was talking about an entirely different restaurant. For our main course, I received a batch of overcooked and half-rotten mussels - probably the worst I've had in my life. One was literally green and had a hole in it like it had been eaten by an i... read more

A bit disappointing... – NY Mag listed this as one of the best burgers of 2007 - it's fair at best. Not impressed. The bun is exactly as one at McDonalds, server said they only serve the burgers 'medium', which is great, however, they arrived just about well done. The beers and mussles were great and overall I liked the place, but if you go for the 'best burger' you will be quite dissapointed.

Great Food - Even Better Hangover Cure – The food here is amazing, real "foodie" kind of food, unlike any other restaurant I can think of. There are hints of Babbo, Five Ninth (where the chef worked before moving here), and Lever House. Try the beef cheek (which looks and tastes like slow-roasted short ribs), the lobster croquette, the spicy lamb ribs and any of the mussels. You won't lose weight eating here, but you will thoroughly enjoy your meal. The place is a great date spot, good vibe, always hopping with flatteringly ... read more

Not Gonna Happen – I'd love to give a review...any review, good or bad, about Resto, as I'd been looking forward to dining there for quite some time (even before the Resto is the Besto review in Time Out), but unfortunately I can't. I can't because I still have not had a chance to eat there, and frankly, I don't really want to anymore. Even more unfortunate is the manner in which my friends and I were turned away. I entered the restaurant this past Friday night with my girlfriend and two other couples. I approached the host ... read more

More than beer brews in the kitchen of this Belgian gastropub. – The Scene Thirsty? Starting with the marble-topped bar and its vast beer collection, the space drops subliminal clues that may spur cravings for a cold one. A pressed tin ceiling, oaky tables and floors, and textured walls conjure a comfy keg cellar, while lighting fixtures resemble frosty, overturned goblets. Tippling certainly buys patience for the awkward service. The Food Each dish on the comfort-driven Belgian menu would go down great with a brew--especial... read more

Needs curtains or carpet... – We went there last night for dinner. The food and service were both good as was the list of interesting beers. The problem was that the place has a tin ceiling, hard wood floors, and no fabric of any kind. The result was an ear deafening echo chamber that became so distracting, it overshadowed the food we were eating. At times, my wife was yelling at me and I still couldn't hear her. They need to put something on the walls that can soak up the sound. The food itself was very good, but was of cou... read more

enough of a hook to try a second time – Overall it was great- but it lacked the proverbial rug that ties the room together. The food was good and the beer selection was even outstanding but the service was rushed and impersonal. However I would come here again and with friends even, because some of the dishes were fantastic. For example the beef cheek was tender and the deserts were delicious. It was an overall success and I would go again as I said if only out of pure interest.

Awesome late night grub! – This place is brand new and is hitting the nail on the head. There are sooo many blonde, triple, trapist, and Belgian beers I've never heard of, it makes you want to try them all. The food caters to the almost comfort food crowd, but on an upscale palate. The burger I had was ground up hanger steak and beef cheek and had such a wonderful texture, and a nice meaty taste. And with the addition of telegio cheese and a nice beer? Forget about it. The fresh frites are great, as well as the pigs head san... read more

Big Hype for NOTHING -- a Waste of Time and Money – With all the hype surrounding this restaurant, I was HORRIFIED at the terrible service, stunned at the abusively small portions and then when the nearly $200 check came for four people who were all still hungry, I really wanted to scream. It took the waitress over 30 minutes to bring an extra glass of wine and even though many members of the staff were wandering around -- NO ONE would help us -- comments from the other waiters like, "Oh, I am not your server, let me get the... read more
