Thursday, September 10. I drove 18 hours to Merrillville with my wife and two daughters for a funeral and pulled in around 11pm. I had updated my arrival time in the app ahead of time to avoid exactly this. Front door locked. Nobody at the desk. There was a cheap aftermarket doorbell device on the wall with a couple of buttons. No light, no sound when I pressed it. BED BUGS BEWARE I have stayed more than 50 nights at Marriott properties this year alone, and unfortunately, this was by far the worst hotel experience I have had. Although the hotel appears to have been recently renovated, the rooms were not very clean, and I encountered bed bugs in my room. I ultimately had to leave the hotel because of the issue. This hotel and the surrounding communities were recovering from a very recent severe damaging storm and derecho. There were people from the surrounding area who had lost power staying there plus renovations were in progress. So small issues didn't really matter. It is a nice place to stay and I would stay there again.

Very nice place!! They have everything you need. Swimming pool, hot tub, fire pit outside with lots of seating so even if someone is sitting at the pit there are tables and chairs everywhere. There is a partially fenced basketball court next to the fire pit. There is a nice built in grill and another small charcoal one. The service has been great. Everyone is nice and helpful. Our bed is nice and comfortable. The bathroom is big and has lots of closet space.

Think three times before staying here. My experience with Residence Inns has generally been very good. If anything wasn't right, the property fixed it. This property was an exception. Several things were not right, and nothing was fixed. We found overflowing trash bins, put them in the hall, and requested that they be emptied and returned. Not going to happen, said manager on duty. She did grudgingly give us two bin bags (one of which was torn and useless) and said we could leave the full bags from the previous occupant in t... read more
