The Shangri-la of gear for those who spend their time rock-climbing, backpacking, cycling and finding other ways to conquer nature. In Short The largest co-op in the nation, REI sells everything needed to survive in the outdoors to members and non-members alike: sleeping bags for below-zero temperatures, GPS units, climbing gear, rations and more. For the more casual outdoor enthusiast, the store also sells tents, kayaks, bicycles, snowboards, skis, luggage, footwear and outdoors-oriented clothing for men, women and children... read more

Terrible Service, Very High Prices A terrible place to shop. (I was even criticized by a manager for returning a defective item!) Supposedly REI offers a 100% satisfaction guarantee, but this is all talk, and not what they really do. Customer service is as bad as I've ever seen. Lots of wannabe outdoor experts sales associates run around pretending to know something, but when asked a question, are unable to provide even low level technical assistance. Then, for all this, you get a lot of way over-priced merchandise that isn'... read more

A great store. I used to camp quite a bit, I even had a huge camper. Whenever I needed accessories or equipment for my trips I came here. This store is so well equiped with everything you need for a trip. The staff is super knowledgable and can helpyou make educated decisions about the proper equipment to buy and take on all different sorts of trips.

Wow I am not an outdoorsy type so I won't pretend like I know what I'm talking about but I came here about a year ago. I needed to find some snowboots at a low price since I rarely go and wouldn't use them much. One of my friends suggested this store. I came here and was impressed and overwhelmed at the same time by the assortment of merchandise. I worked with a salesperson and found some snowboots for only $30. Luckily they were cute and cheap because I still haven't used them.

REI is widely recognized as a leading provider of camping, cycling, and hiking equipment. I have been visiting the REI store in Northridge for the past 8 years or so. As a runner, I primarily use the store for purchasing energy sources such as gels and bars. REI provides these supplements at a good price and will give you a discout if you buy a dozen. They have a great selection of these products, favorable to the carb and protein fans alike. The apparel department has unfortunately been downsized in the past few years; they... read more

Great store, possibly the only store you need if you're going on an outdoor adventure. Really well layed out and well organized. Just coming in here gets me excited to go on a trip and the equipment options are tremendous. Friendly staff and very knowledgable for the experienced or novice traveler. Must check it out.

Bland and overpriced winter goods About 80% of the stuff they sell in the apparel section the REI banded clothing. Now the quality of their REI brand clothing is about as good as stuff I would find at Old Navy except cost 3 times as much. I wanted a thermal or even just a long sleeve T-shirt and the lowest thermal inner I found was on "sale" for $25 (originally $35)! Then if you did decided to buy that shirt you will be sure to see everyone wearing that same design as they stock 20 of the same shirt on one rack rather then c... read more

Trusty store for outdoor needs This is a great place to come if you're new to the world of camping and outdoor adventures. I came here just before I went backpacking to Europe for the first time. The staff was so friendly and helpful that I felt right at ease and I became more excited for my trip. I was able to find a great backpack at my level for a descent price. I also found some other helpful first aid things and was able to ease my parents for my long trip. This place is the ultimate store in outdoor activites and trips... read more

I came here once with my daughter when she was looking for a backpack to go to Europe. Neither of us knew what to pick out and we didn't know the differences between brands and uses. We were assisted by helpful salespeople and we felt secure in our decision. We were also pleased because there was a variety of choices to choose from. Very nice outdoor store.
