BEWARE BEWARE – Went in to get my chain fixed really quick (around 7pm)--thought a 5 minute repair would be simple enough to pass by--NOPE. #1. Got completely snubbed when I asked if the bike mechanic would come by and give me a second opinion on how to unhinge my stuck chain--the answer I got to that was "sorry man, the lady working on bikes is super swamped, here's the tools--good luck" #2 Asked for a pair of gloves as to not blacken my hands with chain grease--the reply I got was, "pfft, everyone gets their hands dirty he... read more

AWESOME experience today at the REI pinnacle! – My 12 year-old climbed the pinnacle today at REI, Seattle. She would have been climbing sooner, but has just about completely healed from years of (24) hip & leg surgeries she's had to endure for the past 6 years. We're moving to Thailand for a few years in three months, where the climbing at Railay is some of the MOST amazing in the world. I was not willing to spend the $$ in gear, if she didn't even like it in a totally controlled environment, like REI We had the MOST amazing... read more

Great for the Novice – I'm new at the whole hiking thing (people here hike in the rain???) and was referred to REI for gear. This is a great resource for quality equipment and a one stop shop. My salesperson was very good, helped me get everything I needed, and asked lots of questions. He told me about his favorite hiking areas and trails, and got me excited about my first trip up to Mt. Si. I hope to start biking and running again. I'll be back to pick up more gear.

great return policy – Place is huge, has everything. The only thing is I priced places and they still come up on the higher side. But it's nice to know I can return anything.

Great all-round sporting goods store – I have been an REI customer for 30 years, and have shopped at sporting goods stores all over the planet. True, if you are looking for cheap, army-surplus type goods here, you won't find 'em, and true if you are a gearhead looking for only the rarest and most esoteric specialty equipment, you won't find it here. They do have very good, well-tested equipment, outdoor clothing and supplies. On busy weekends you will have to wait for service, esp. where you need a fit like boots or skis. Th... read more
