Editorial fromThis seafood restaurant and watering hole has been around since 1957. The cooking can be uneven, but we usually enjoy the catch of the day, the deep-fried shellfish and the seafood salads, served in generous portions. Hearty all-American…

We have vacationed on Shelter Island for 20 years and have been loyal Red Sails customers. We love the food and atmosphere. This past July 4th was a disaster. The invasion of pigeons and gulls on the outside patio has grown out of control. When we were the during our meal there was a pigeon on 2 tables with guests eating, a gull on a 3rd grabbing food off a lady's plate and 3 pigeons on an empty table where one took a dump. How unhealthy and disgusting. Where is the health department? Would have been a treat for Alfred Hitch... read more

As good as it gets – My son recently held his wedding on Shelter Island and we chose the Red Sails Inn to host our Rehearsal Dinner. We had eaten here a few times while making the arrangements and were very impressed with the meals, the service and the venue. All of the wedding guests were from out of town and many took our recommendation to dine here, repeatedly. On Thursday evening we had a walk in party of 22, asked for and received outside seating, and were served in an efficient manner by servers who did not seem to be ... read more
Terrific atmosphere and Food We went to the Red Sails Inn after my father's funeral. My father was a merchant marine engineer and had spent most of his career on the water. The day was beautiful, the view was gorgeous, the food was wonderful and the price was very good. They even let us sit on the deck and release some white balloons with messages to my dad. I will always fondly remember that restaurant and we are going to go back on his birthday to celebrate his life. Thank you so much, Red Sails Inn, for creating a wonderf... read more
Ughhhh I have to start off by saying my husband LOVES this place! Took me there several times while we were dating. Although the atmosphere is nice and it has a waterfront view, the food is YUCK! Now I don't like sea food so I am sure that doesn't help because besides sea food there is not much on the menu. I usually have a salad and it seems the lettuce is always limp or even sometimes brown and just the whole meal isn't very good. Maybe its better if you like sea food but I cant imagine.
Not great.. amongst great competition Had dinner last night at the Red Sails Inn. Our salads were limp and drenched with so much dressing, we couldn't even finish them. Rolls seemed to be pull-aparts from the grocery store. The entrees were the worst. My husband had breaded jumbo shrimp, and said they were horrible tasting. I had shrimp scampi, which was 4 tasteless shrimp that were so over-cooked and a wierd sauce.. What a waste - our dinner was over $60... not worth it! The area has so many great restaurants.
Great food, fun atmosphere, attentive service and kid-friendly...a fantastic casual dining experience for the whole family.
Decent food - Nice employees This is a little place out on shelter island - you would think it would have a great atmosphere and view, but not really. The food was decent bordering on pretty good (we had lunch) but was a little overpriced probably because it is "on the water". There are too many other choices or restaurants on shelter island to settle for this one unless you really have no choice. The server and staff were very pleasant though.
Editorial Review by Erin Chambers – Locals are practically on the dock when eating on the back patio at this friendly Shelter Island breakfast spot on the harbor.
