I had a non-smoking room that smelled like a smoker's house. It obviously hadn't been non-smoking for very long. And one of the bed covers had what looked like a cigarette burn hole through it. Other than that, it served it's purpose.
Every time I come through Virginia I stay at the Staunton Red Roof Inn, and it's always been a 5 * experience until this weekend. Loud crackheads (not stereotyping, actually openly smoking crack cocaine on the balcony) arguing all night on what seemed to be the entire back section of the building. Certainly not the hotels fault, but it does give it a bad image and make guests feel uncomfortable. That said, the staff is friendly, rooms are clean, and rates are cheap.
