Radio African and Kitchen is the creation of chef Eskender Aseged, who immigrated to the Bay Area from Ethiopia in the late 1980s. Aseged started off in the restaurant business by hosting "pop up" events in his home and nearby cafes, serving Ethiopian cuisine to groups of friends. Now Aseged has put down roots in the Bayview district with Radio Africa. I had heard about Radio Africa & Kitchen, a nomadic restaurant, last year and was really intrigued. An Ethiopian chef who had worked at Bay Area restaurants for the past 20 years began serving meals for 15-20 friends at his home. Radio Africa was born and the buzz about this underground supper club spread and he was soon serving his meals at a local cafe. Im going to be completely honest, this is not a restaurant I would go to of my own volition if I only saw their location and menu. After trying their food, however, I’ve realized that was a huge mistake. The food is absolutely delicious, and I wish I could have the piri piri sauce they make in a gallon jar so I could add it to everything.
Highly recommend! The food is great and the people are kind.
