When it was determined that I needed L4-L5 spinal laminectomy and L4-S1 spinal fusion, my primary care recommended an orthopedic surgeon. I was told by a friend who was a nurse to a spinal orthopedic surgeon that I absolutely needed a spinal neurosurgeon for the job. In fact the orthopedic surgeon and the radiologist both missed a detail on my CT scan that would have resulted in an incomplete surgical solution. Absolutely dreadful experience. I arrive per instruction 15 minutes early. I'm taken back to the examination room. I wait for over an hour. I'm self employed, live and die by billable hours, I'm mindful of schedules. The nurse comes in to tell me the doctor will arrive shortly, I glance at my watch. Her response, "You should be glad he's even able to see you". So dismissive, just cruel. What are the chances I'm the only person she's ever addressed that way? I walked in for back pain relief surgery Nov 2021, woke up paralyzed from the waist down. Had 2 more surgeries in the following 2 weeks to try to correct. Now 2 years later I still cannot walk unassisted. ** Update Feb 2025, still have nerve damage from the surgery, still cannot walk unassisted. Never had trouble walking until that back surgery in Nov 2021.
