About this business

Locally produced food - within a 60 mile radius of South Bend. Most of our producers use organic growing methods. Those that are not certified organic use sustainable growing methods for our area. Value added food is all produced within the same radius. Meats are all hormone- and antibiotic-free and ethically raised. We have an online ordering system where you can learn more about each producer. The Purple Porch is a great local food connection in South Bend - they have supported our farm, Jake's Country Meats, for many years. Working directly with local producers is a rare find in a grocery store- support them!

I've had the chance to see Purple Porch grow from a farmers' market open 2 hours a week at Lang Lab to a full on grocery store located in downtown South Bend. I started as a shopper, then volunteer, then board member, now I'm the local foods purchaser. It's owned by the community, it supports local farmers, and the quality of food is off the charts.

Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Great local product selection, along with interesting artisan food items. Also a wonderful place to grab an excellent cup of coffee and a snack and just relax with friends or a book.

I have also purchased a few products that I had a hard time finding when I relocated back to my hometown of South Bend from Austin, TX. I will definitely continue to come ba... read more

Great local place for a healthy buffet lunch. I assume their groceries are good too, but I've only gone there for lunch, not grocery shopping.

Business response:

Thank you Amy! :)
