He is terrible. He nearly ruined my life with an incorrect diagnosis. He has an arrogant bedside manner too. Thank goodness I got a second and third opinion who both agreed Dr Pumphrey was incorrect. These other 2 providers agreed on the same diagnosis, which was in a totally different area of psychiatry. Steer as far away as you can get from Dr Pumphrey!
Excellent psychiatrist. My pcp told me to see him because he is the best in the area and she was right. I saw two other psychiatrists and he did so much more and helped me more. He is kind, caring, and SUPER thorough. I sent my two best friends to see him too.
Arrogant. 1st hr appt, he asks you 1 question after another, from your earliest memory as a kid, right up until today. And he wants specifics, can't understand when you don't remember something. Quick to want to change your meds, change your diagnoses, criticize other psychiatrists because he knows more and better than they do. He's had 10 yrs experience. A drop in the bucket compared to other psychiatrists.
Fails to listen to why you are there and recommends expensive treatment options that do not pertain to the reason you scheduled an appointment.
He is extremely attentive and eat to talk to. He seems very non-judgemental and seems to truly want to help.
Pumphrey will refuse to work with you if you have any substance use background. I went for chronic depression and was refused treatment based on his opinion that I had abused substances in the past and still drink a glass of wine a day. He told me after an hour, I can't work with you. I had looked forward to this appointment for 6 weeks hoping for some help for my depression. I've never before been refused services by a so called doctor.
He is a good and thorough doctor who takes his time with patients. He is caring and a good psychiatrist.
