one of the best coffee shops in town! drink quality is exceptional, the staff are friendly and there’s plenty of sitting space to hang out or get some work done.
I have two 250 g bags of whole bean coffee of two separate varieties from July. Both bags have an unacceptable amount of chaff. I’ve never seen so much from any other roaster. It’s not even remotely close. I need to blow it out of my bowl before I put the beans in my grinder. I have a tiny 15 g coffee bean scooper and every time I use it there’s multiple pieces of chaff in it. I included a photo of the empty bag after I emptied all the beans into another container. Really disappointing experience at Prototype Café today. Their espresso machine was down because of a power outage, which I completely understood. The cashier was actually very friendly and explained that the shots had been pre-extracted, so I was fine with that. The problem was that the “double espresso” looked noticeably short. I’ve worked in coffee shop management for about 10 years, so I asked the barista what their usual yield was. He said 45 g. We weighed the shot I received and it was only 30 g.
