I saw the Dr. Denton in August for a back molar perhaps in need of a root canal. After his assistant xrayed and checked the tooth in question Dr Denton came in and prescribed antibiotics and two steroid tablets with a diagnosis of 'packing'. I was told to floss between the molars until they bled then rinse with mouthwash, and to take the antibiotics until they are gone. The discomfort waned but did not entirely cease.
