Did the Guilded Age Tour. It was excellent if you are a fan of the show. The tour included The Marble House, The Breakers, Chateau Sur Mer and The Elms. Note these are not full tours of the mansions but tours of several rooms that were on the show. Our docent was great and she told great behind the scenes stories of filming of the show. The tour lasted about 4 hours so were comfortable shoes. They provide a trolley/short bus to transport the group to each mansion.
The offer an EBT discount but no sort of regular military discount.
I'm not a huge history person, so I didn't do the guided tours. I just got a pamphlet at the entrance to each house and followed it. I literally just went to look at the houses. I was expecting to stay 2 hours in each house - in reality, it is probably closer to 20-30 minutes. The homes are just unbelievable; they are soooo well kept, the grounds are immaculate. We toured all the mansions possible in a few days in Newport. We were so impressed with the details the guides provided, the quality of the audio tours, & the attention to detail in every aspect of the properties. Thank you to everyone who takes so much time & care in preserving this unique part of American history!
