Heaven! Paradise! Nirvana! – Powell's City of Books is such a nice escape from the flood of bland, boring mainstream drivel out there. I have to get my fix every once in a while and it's the first place I take friends who come to town to visit. Support your local bookstore!!! (Do wish they had more magazines, though)
Shocking Place – I have never met such grumpy people in all my life. The service was dreadful. The people were surly, if not just plain rude.
awesome – You won't find a Powell's anywhere else. It's a microcosm of Portland itself: a city full of well-read, knowledgeable, progressive citizens. If you're looking for an atmosphere which capsulizes the flavor of Portland, go to Powell's.
a sea of books – more books than the local library i got lost in the store, i could spend days brousing thier selections
Lost in your mind – No matter what your taste is in reading you can find it at Powell's. Our entire family can get lost in other worlds somewhere in this store.
Incredible bookstore – Though it seems to have lost a touch of personality in the re-design, Powell's is still the best and most comprehensive bookstore I've visited. You can almost always find a used version of the book you're looking for for less money, and you can also sell your used books here, for cash or trade.
Everything you'd ever want to read – Powell's is so big I bring guests from out of town to see it like an attraction. Just amazing the selection and sheer volume of books. I love the fact they offer new & used on the same shelf and the cafe inside. I've spent many an hour lost in Powell's, sometimes I've complained it is too big! The staff is very helpful if you need to find your way around. My advice, have a plan of attack- know what your looking for - at least the general subject matter. HUGE and FULL – Amazing selection, I really appreciated how they had the used books mixed in with the new books. Made it more fun to shop!! Found a few gems, but I'm sure there were more! Spend some time browsing... you'll love it! I also liked the vibe, it was not as sterile as I've come to expect from BIG bookstores (Borders, Barnes & Noble).
Huge – Powell's is so big, you could get lost. You'll definitely lose a few hours just browsing, because they have everything! Service is great--they'll look up anything for you and tell you where to find it, a must in a place this big. If you need a few bucks, take your used books in for cash or trade. Best time to go is Sunday morning--fewer people and plenty of parking.
