Overpriced Downstairs has a great collection of mostly new books, albeit pricy. You can get more competitive pricing elsewhere, such as at Borders.
NEVER AGAIN The most unpleasant staff. Customers are made to feel like an inconvenience. It's a shame that there isn't any local competition... unfortunately after several horrible experiences at Very Poor Richard's I must drive to Lexington to find a real bookstore.
Great Place for Books Poor Richard's is one of the most friendly places anybody can browse for book. I love the dusty, smelly, moldy attic where a little digging is likely to turn up books long out of print that are unlikely to be found elsewhere. The first floor contains a mixture of new and gently used books, many of local interest. It's truly a bookstore for bibliophiles. The adjoining Coffeetree Cafe which is also lined with Richard's bookshelves is a great place for discussions with like-minded folks over a hot cup.
Dirty, Smelly, Moldy, OverPriced and RUDE This dump only gets a star because the system makes you leave at least one.
Old Richards Book Store This is a very cozy book store. You can curl up with a great book and spend hours reading the time away. Also, you can go next door and get the greatest cup of coffee in town.If they do not have a book you are looking for, they will be glad to order it for you. I have had several special orders thru them. They have always been courteous, friendly and very knowledgeable.
It's like going back in time. There's nothing like going into a cozy old bookstore. Just smell those books! You can buy old books or new books and settle in for a wonderful coffee drink and listen to the local talk or walk on through to Completely Kentucky and buy something wonderfully handcrafted. It's all so "old Broadway". You have to try it.
Grab a book and pull up a chair! One of those old-fashioned book shops where you can find just about anything. Literally thousands of books on any subject you can think of. Lots of inviting chairs to curl up in and read, and no one hurries you. I got some great Kentucky postcards there too.
Poor Richard's Books has a 4.6 star rating with 164 reviews.
Poor Richard's Books is closed now. It will open tomorrow at 9:00 a.m.
