About this business

Founded in 1955 by Lee and Ted Hanson and later bought over by Mei and Charlie Wu, Polly Anne ice cream is famous for their exotic flavors. Mei and Charlie, being from Taiwan, have added a touch of Asian flavor to their list like lychee, green tea and red bean. Their clients are not only locals but also a number of students and tourists alike. They have got a list of over 500 flavors, but if you find it a mind boggling task to select one, the staff is ever happy to create a flavor of your choice as well. For some excitement ... read more

TASTY ICE CREAM Polly Ann ice cream is a staple in the city. I always get green tea ice cream or lychee ice cream. They have a large and tasty selection of ice creams, but I recommend the green tea because it is one of the bests. I have never had green tea ice cream better than polly ann's!

Unique Asian flavors Ice Cream – The Ice Cream here was not as rich and creamy as I would like but the flavors were delightful. I tried Durian, Sesame, Lychee and American Beauty (Rose), Taro, Green Tea and Jasmine Tea. American Beauty was very distinct. Rose flavored ice cream was unlike anything I had tried before. Unfortunately it reminded me too much of my hand soap. I liked the sesame one at first but after a couple more bites it became a bit too overpowering for my taste buds. My favorite of all was Durian but it is de... read more

Ask for a sample--or three--before you commit to one of more than 50 mind-boggling flavors at this Outer Sunset ice cream shop. – The folks at this corner shop, where ice cream is made in-house and fresh waffle cones are piled high, understand that it's often hard to choose between, say, bubble gum, Bumpy Freeway, green tea and lemon cheesecake. Such is the reasoning behind The Wheel: a rainbow-hued disc that hangs against the back wall that, with a spin, determines which of the 50-plus daily flavors will end up in your bell... read more

A local favorite for decades – I've been coming to Polly Ann's for over 20 yrs. I was first introducted to their rose flavored ice cream, but coconut is my favorite now. The newly remodeled store is so much more spacious and welcoming and seating to boot! Worse time to go is around 3pm when the local school kids are out of school and making a ruckus in the store w/their cell phones and conversations. Skipped the ice cream floats, they use generic sodas and it tastes awful! You have a choice of having your ice cream served in... read more

Polly Ann's is back!! – Polly Ann's is back, on the same block, but a little further down, on the corner. The inside is much nicer with a lot more room and seating along the windows. They still have the wheel, the doggie cones, and all the plaques with the saying. And of course the ice cream is still awesome. Green Tea and Cantaloupe are my favorites this week...

fun for everyone-- ice cream near ocean beach! – Polly Ann's is great because it has unusual and traditional flavors. My BF likes the flavors that are boyish like "Star Wars" and "Batman." Another unique thing about Polly Ann's is the "wheel of fortune" which has numbers on it, so if you can't choose a flavor, an employee spins the wheel and it can choose your flavor for you. BONUS- your spin might land on a free ice cream space! But, one of the best things about Polly Ann's is that every person who has a doggy waiting outsi... read more

Goodbye to a local favorite – Although Polly Ann's is no longer at its familar middle of the block locale, it's ice cream can still be found in many local supermarkets. The most memorable item about Polly Ann's was its wheel of fortune game. Since there were so many flavors on the menu with fictious names, a confused customer could spin the wheel to pick a flavor. If the wheel landed on a flavor you were unsure about you had the option of picking the flavor to the left or right of the selected ice cream. The best part was th... read more
