About this business

Pisticci is a warm, welcoming Italian eatery which is located within Columbia University's hinterland. Needless to say, this charming restaurantwhich is adorned with exposed brick walls, a trompe-l'oeil library in its bar area and constantly changing art installationsis popular with both the students and faculty of the University. The menu at Pisticci offers the restaurant's interpretations of classic Italian fare and serves up delectable gems like the Roasted Garlic Bread, the Tiger Shrimp Over Tuscan Beans, and the Maltagl... read more

I eat out frequently, in excellent restaurants, and travel extensively, often in Italy where I have family and friends. I love this restaurant. The food is very good, the prices reasonable, service pleasant and the atmosphere charming. Some of the negative reviews puzzle me, and reek of snobbery. Small portions? Only if you usually eat in a diner! Poor service? Perhaps, if you are a regular at Le Bernardin! Depressing atmosphere? Only if you like very loud music and a Disney World ambience. These critics are so petty, and mi... read more

Great for dates! – I went here on a date last night. It was really nice. The atmosphere is inviting and the food was delicious. The date was forgettable, but the food wasn't. Try the artichoke appetizer.

Charming – I think this place is really popular in part because a) there are so few places like it up in that neighborhood, and b) it's pretty affordable -- esp. for all those students on budgets. The place has it's charm and for the price, it's darn good. While several folks commented on the size of the portions, I thought they were what normal-sized portions should be -- this isn't Olive Garden, folks and we don't need McPlatefuls of pasta! Our group started with the olives and cheese bowl, which was plentiful and tasty an... read more

Small portions, food is adequate, hostess needs to go to hostessing school – I'm confused by some of these glowing reviews. Who are these people, and do they actually have any restaurant experience? The place is average at best. The portions are terribly small-- so the prices are actually high for what they offer. The waiter was good, but the hostess was borderline passive aggressive. When asked to move seat, she said that all that was available were shared tables (this when the restaurant was only half full). Mostly filled ... read more

Nice and cozy, lazy service – It was my first time at Pisticci. Our server was kind of brusque and the service was slow... which we could have understood -- or even found charming -- if we weren't two of only eight or so customers in the entire place at the time. Decor was warm and comfortable, and the house red wine was decent. We thought the meatballs were underwhelming, but the penne Pisticci was a winner. I don't really understand the hype. I'll go back, but I wasn't blown away.
