As a retired attorney, I've seen too many people wanting to file bankruptcy because they have hospital and other medical bills which they cannot afford. America needs --- no, it's long overdue --- universal singlepayer healthcare now! How can it be that America is caught in politics denying healthcare, allowing Americans to suffer? Unconscionable. Why must corporate profit and shareholders be considered before the health of Americans? Again, unconscionable. Are profits what America is all about?
PNHP is on the right track to emphasize comparisons to other developed countries' health systems. We hear much of America's history of exceptionalism. Unfortunately, inaccessible over-expensive medical care is a prime example of US distinctiveness for the worse.
