Irrigation system can be primary or supplementary, depending on annual rainfall and the crops you grow. Even if annual rainfall averages are adequate, having a supplemental system is a good back up plan.

The reason why irrigation systems are divided into zones is because there is usually not enough pressure and available flow to run sprinklers for an entire yard at once.
